Photodeconjugation

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-008840

A photochemical reaction where a conjugated system, such as a double bond or a carbonyl group, undergoes a rearrangement to a non-conjugated or less conjugated isomer upon light absorption. This process results in a shift of the double bond position, reducing the extent of electron delocalization. It is observed in compounds like alpha,beta-unsaturated carboxylic acids.
