Sultines
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-013614
A class of heterocyclic organosulfur compounds that are cyclic esters of a sulfinic acid. They are analogous to lactones, which are cyclic esters of carboxylic acids, but contain a sulfur atom in place of a carbonyl carbon. The characteristic functional group within the ring is -S(=O)-O-, formed by the intramolecular condensation of a hydroxysulfinic acid.
