Lactones
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-006419
Cyclic esters formed by the intramolecular reaction of a hydroxyl group and a carboxylic acid group within the same molecule. They are characterized by a ring structure containing an ester linkage. The size of the ring is indicated by a Greek letter prefix, such as gamma-lactone for a five-membered ring.
