Ring-opening nucleophilic chain polymerization
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-010365
A chain polymerization mechanism where a cyclic monomer undergoes ring-opening initiated by a nucleophile, leading to the formation of a polymer. The nucleophile attacks an electrophilic center in the cyclic monomer, breaking the ring and generating a new reactive site that propagates the chain. This process is common for monomers like lactones, lactams, and cyclic ethers.
