Ring-opening polymerization
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-010366
A polymerization reaction in which cyclic monomers are converted into linear polymers by the scission of a bond within the ring structure. This process typically proceeds via chain-growth mechanisms, involving initiation, propagation, and termination steps. Common examples include the polymerization of epoxides, lactones, and cyclic amides.
