Coordination ring-opening polymerization
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-002561
A ring-opening polymerization in which the propagation step proceeds via coordination of a cyclic monomer to an active center, followed by insertion into a metal-polymer bond. The active species is a coordination complex, which dictates the reaction's stereochemistry and rate. This method is applied to the synthesis of polyesters from lactones and polyethers from cyclic ethers, using catalysts based on metals such as aluminum, zinc, or tin.
