Anionic ring-opening polymerization
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-000615
A chain polymerization mechanism where a cyclic monomer is opened by an anionic initiator, leading to the formation of a linear polymer. The anionic active center propagates by attacking the ring of another monomer molecule, causing it to open and add to the growing chain. This method is widely used for synthesizing polyethers, polyesters, and polyamides from cyclic monomers like lactones and epoxides.
