Anionized molecule

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-000616

An ion produced when an anion attaches to a neutral molecule M, for example the chloride or formate adduct of M seen in negative-ion mass spectrometry. It differs from a deprotonated molecule, which forms by losing a proton, and from a radical anion, which forms by capturing an electron. For a singly charged adduct the mass-to-charge ratio equals the mass of M plus the mass of the attached anion.
