Deprotonated molecule

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-013029

A molecule that has lost one or more protons (H+) from its structure, resulting in a negatively charged species. This process occurs under basic conditions or in the gas phase during mass spectrometry analysis. The resulting ion has a mass-to-charge ratio (m/z) corresponding to the neutral molecule minus the mass of the lost proton(s).
