Anhydro bases
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-000606
Neutral compounds made from an iminium hydroxide, for instance a quaternary heterocyclic salt with a methyl group at the 2-position, when the hydroxide ion removes a proton from a position conjugated to the cationic C=N unit and water is lost. The product is an enamine-like methylene base, for example from 1,2-dimethylpyridinium or 1,2-dimethylquinolinium. Anhydro bases are strongly basic and take up a proton to regenerate the iminium cation.
