Leuco bases
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-006530
The colorless compounds obtained by reducing triarylmethane dyes, in which the central carbon carries a hydrogen, so that conjugation across the three rings is lost. Leucomalachite green, bis(4-dimethylaminophenyl)phenylmethane, the reduced form of malachite green, is a standard example. Oxidation, for instance with lead dioxide, restores the colored dye.
