Schiff bases

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-010574

A class of organic compounds containing a carbon-nitrogen double bond, where the nitrogen atom is connected to an alkyl or aryl group but not to hydrogen. They are formally imines with the general formula R2C=NR', where R' is not hydrogen. Schiff bases are typically formed by the condensation reaction of a primary amine with an aldehyde or ketone.
