Leucism
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-006529
A congenital condition characterized by a partial or total reduction of all types of pigment in an animal's skin, hair, or feathers, resulting in a white or pale appearance. It is caused by a defect in the differentiation or migration of pigment-producing cells (melanocytes) from the neural crest during embryonic development. Unlike albinism, leucism does not affect the pigment cells in the retina, so the eyes retain their normal color.
