Melanism
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-013270
The development of dark pigment in the skin, hair, or feathers of an animal due to an increased concentration of melanin. This genetic variation can be influenced by environmental factors, leading to adaptive changes in populations. Industrial melanism, for example, is observed in moths in polluted areas.
