Melt
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-007149
The amorphous, liquid-like state of a polymer above its glass transition temperature (for amorphous polymers) or melting temperature (for semicrystalline polymers). In this state, the polymer chains have enough thermal energy to move past one another, allowing the material to flow under an applied force. The viscosity of a polymer melt is highly dependent on temperature, shear rate, and molar mass.
