Supercooled melt
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-011590
A liquid substance that has been cooled below its equilibrium freezing or melting point without solidifying. This metastable state occurs when crystallization is kinetically hindered. In polymers, a supercooled melt is a common precursor to glass formation or crystallization, depending on the cooling rate and molecular mobility.
