Polymer melt

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-009178

A polymer in a fluid state above its melting temperature for crystalline polymers or above its glass transition temperature for amorphous polymers. In this state, polymer chains possess sufficient thermal energy to overcome intermolecular forces, allowing for viscous flow. The viscosity of a polymer melt is a key parameter in polymer processing operations.
