Supercooled polymer melt

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-011591

A polymer melt that has been cooled below its equilibrium melting temperature but remains in a liquid, non-crystalline state. This metastable condition is achieved when the rate of cooling is faster than the rate of crystallization. The supercooled melt is the state from which polymer glasses or semicrystalline solids form upon further cooling or annealing.
