Spherulite

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-011190

A spherical, semicrystalline microstructure that forms in many polymers upon cooling from the melt or during crystallization from solution. It consists of numerous lamellar crystals radiating outwards from a central nucleus, often separated by amorphous regions. Spherulite size and morphology significantly influence the mechanical and optical properties of the polymer material.
