Shish-kebab structure
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-010824
A distinctive morphology observed in semicrystalline polymers, particularly after crystallization under flow or stress. It consists of a central, extended-chain fibrillar core, referred to as the 'shish', from which lamellar crystals, known as 'kebabs', grow epitaxially and periodically along the shish axis. This structure is often found in high-molecular-weight polymers processed by techniques like fiber spinning or injection molding.
