Homoepitaxy
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-005359
Epitaxial growth of one crystal on another of the same substance, so that the new polymer crystal takes a fixed orientation relative to the crystal that nucleated it. In polymers it covers lamellae growing on shish fibrils in shish-kebab structures and the cross-hatched daughter lamellae of isotactic polypropylene, whose lattices sit at a set angle to the parent lamella rather than parallel to it. It can also link two polymorphs, such as the gamma form on the alpha form.
