Polymorphic polymer crystal
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-009207
A single polymer crystal built from adjoining domains that have different crystal structures, or polymorphs, of one and the same polymer, with well-defined lattice relationships kept between the domains. Isotactic polypropylene gives crystals containing alpha and gamma phase domains in this way. Polymorphism in general is the wider property of a polymer crystallizing in more than one lattice, each form having its own density and melting point.
