Tie molecule
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-012058
A polymer chain that connects two or more crystalline lamellae or crystalline regions within a semicrystalline polymer. These molecules typically originate from one lamella, pass through an amorphous region, and then re-enter another lamella or fold back into the same lamella. Tie molecules contribute significantly to the mechanical strength and toughness of semicrystalline polymers.
