Shirley background
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-010823
A method for subtracting the inelastic background from X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) spectra. It assumes that the background at a given kinetic energy is proportional to the area of the peak at higher kinetic energies. This empirical background correction is widely used to accurately determine peak areas for quantitative analysis in XPS.
