Self-nucleation
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-010710
A process in polymer crystallization where residual crystalline fragments or highly ordered regions, formed during a previous melting and cooling cycle, act as nucleation sites for subsequent crystallization. This phenomenon can significantly influence the crystallization kinetics and morphology of semicrystalline polymers. It is often observed when a polymer is not fully melted before recrystallization.
