Nucleation and growth
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-013349
A two-step process describing the formation of a new phase from a supersaturated or supercooled parent phase. Nucleation involves the initial formation of stable small clusters of the new phase. These nuclei then increase in size by the addition of further atoms or molecules from the surrounding medium.
