Embryo

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-003832

A small, unstable aggregate of molecules or particles that forms as an intermediate step during nucleation processes, such as crystallization or phase separation. These transient structures are too small to be stable and can either grow into larger, stable nuclei or redissolve. The formation and growth of embryos are described by classical nucleation theory.
