Rate of nucleation

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-009943

The number of new stable nuclei or particles formed per unit volume per unit time in a phase transition, such as crystallization or condensation. This rate describes the initial step in the formation of a new phase from a supersaturated or supercooled parent phase. It is highly dependent on temperature, supersaturation, and the presence of impurities.
