Nucleation
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-008127
The initial step in the formation of a new thermodynamic phase, such as a crystal, a bubble, or a droplet, within a supersaturated or supercooled parent phase. This process involves the spontaneous formation of stable clusters of the new phase, which then grow. It can be homogeneous, occurring uniformly throughout the bulk, or heterogeneous, occurring at specific sites like impurities or surfaces.
