Nucleation
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-007629
The initial process of forming a new thermodynamic phase, such as a liquid droplet from a vapor or an ice crystal from supercooled water, around a microscopic particle or impurity. In the atmosphere, this involves the formation of cloud droplets around condensation nuclei or ice crystals around ice nuclei. Nucleation is a fundamental step in cloud formation and precipitation processes.
