Threshold of nucleation

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-009641

The specific set of atmospheric conditions, such as supersaturation and temperature, at which aerosol particles begin to act as condensation nuclei or ice nuclei, leading to the formation of cloud droplets or ice crystals. This threshold varies depending on the chemical composition, size, and hygroscopicity of the aerosol particles. For water vapor condensation, it is typically reached when relative humidity exceeds 100%.
