Threshold of pain

The sound pressure level at which sound becomes physically painful to the human ear. This level is generally around 120 to 140 decibels sound pressure level (dB SPL), depending on the individual and the frequency of the sound. Prolonged exposure to sounds at or above this level can cause permanent hearing damage.
