Threshold of audibility

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-009639

The minimum sound pressure level at which a human ear can detect a sound at a specific frequency. This threshold varies with frequency, with the human ear being most sensitive to sounds between 2,000 and 5,000 Hz. It is typically expressed in decibels relative to a reference sound pressure of 20 micropascals.
