Sound pressure level
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-009056
A logarithmic measure of the effective pressure of a sound relative to a standard reference value. It is expressed in decibels (dB) above a reference pressure, which for sound in air is defined as 20 micropascals (µPa), the approximate threshold of human hearing. In atmospheric acoustics, this measurement is used to quantify the intensity of phenomena like thunder, wind turbine noise, or sonic booms.
