Sound channel
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-009055
A layer in the atmosphere or ocean where sound waves are refracted and confined, allowing them to travel long distances with minimal loss of intensity. In the atmosphere, this channel is often created by temperature inversions or variations in wind speed with height. The atmospheric sound channel is sometimes referred to as the 'atmospheric duct'.
