Self-localized excitations

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-010709

Electronic excitations that become trapped or localized in a specific region of a material due to interactions with the surrounding lattice or molecular environment. These excitations induce a distortion in the local structure, which in turn stabilizes the localized state. Examples include polarons and excitons in conjugated polymers or molecular crystals.
