Polaron
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-009085
A quasiparticle formed when an electron or hole in a crystal lattice becomes coupled with the surrounding lattice distortions. This coupling arises from the interaction between the charge carrier and the vibrational modes of the lattice. Polarons are observed in materials such as conducting polymers and ionic crystals.
