Lattice distortion
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-006486
A deviation from the ideal, perfectly periodic arrangement of atoms or molecules within a crystal lattice. These distortions can be caused by defects, impurities, or thermal vibrations, leading to local strains and changes in bond lengths or angles. Lattice distortions affect the physical and mechanical properties of crystalline polymers.
