Intrinsic defects

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-006027

Imperfections in the crystal lattice of a material that arise from thermodynamic equilibrium, such as vacancies or interstitial atoms of the same chemical species as the host lattice. These defects are present even in perfectly pure crystals at finite temperatures. They influence the electrical, optical, and mechanical properties of solids.
