Extrinsic absorption
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-004310
Light absorption in a material that arises from impurities, defects, or dopants within its structure, rather than from the intrinsic electronic transitions of the pure material. This type of absorption often occurs at photon energies lower than the fundamental absorption edge. It is frequently exploited in semiconductor technology to tailor optical properties.
