Radiative absorption

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-009839

The process by which an atom, molecule, or ion absorbs a photon of electromagnetic radiation, leading to a transition from a lower energy state to a higher energy state. This absorption involves the transfer of energy from the photon to the absorbing species. The energy of the absorbed photon must match the energy difference between the two states.
