Stimulated radiative charge carrier recombination
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-011418
Radiative recombination of an electron and a hole that is triggered by an incident photon of matching wavelength, so the emitted photon copies the inducing photon in wavelength, phase, polarization and direction. In a system with many excited states populated it gives stimulated emission, the working principle of lasers, and it underlies optical gain in polymer lasers. It differs from the spontaneous emission that produces light in an OLED.
