Fundamental absorption edge
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-004721
The wavelength or energy at which a material begins to strongly absorb electromagnetic radiation due to fundamental electronic transitions, such as electrons moving from the valence band to the conduction band. This edge corresponds to the band gap energy of the material. It is a characteristic property of semiconductors and insulators.
