Conduction band
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-002396
A range of electron energy levels in a solid material that are largely unoccupied at absolute zero temperature, but can accept electrons from the valence band upon excitation. Electrons in this band are free to move throughout the material, allowing for electrical conduction. The energy gap between the valence band and conduction band determines a material's conductivity.
