Energy band

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-003918

A range of allowed energy levels for electrons within a crystalline solid or polymer, arising from the quantum mechanical interactions of atomic orbitals. These bands are separated by forbidden energy gaps. In polymers, the highest occupied band is the valence band, and the lowest unoccupied band is the conduction band, determining electrical conductivity.
