Fermi energy
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-004377
The highest occupied energy level by electrons in a solid at absolute zero temperature (0 K). It represents the maximum kinetic energy an electron can have in a metal at this temperature. In metals, the Fermi energy lies within the conduction band, while in semiconductors and insulators, it is located within the band gap.
