Near edge X-ray absorption fine structure
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-007792
The fine structure observed in an X-ray absorption spectrum at energies just above an absorption edge, typically within about 50 eV. This region provides information about the electronic structure, oxidation state, and local coordination environment of the absorbing atom. It is highly sensitive to the chemical bonding and symmetry of the atomic site.
