Extended X-ray absorption fine structure spectroscopy

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-004259

A technique that analyzes the fine structure oscillations in the X-ray absorption coefficient at energies above the absorption edge of a specific element. These oscillations arise from the scattering of the ejected photoelectron by neighboring atoms. The analysis provides detailed information about the local atomic environment, including bond distances, coordination numbers, and disorder, typically within a radius of 0.5 nm from the absorbing atom.
