Extended X-ray absorption fine structure

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-004258

The oscillatory part of the X-ray absorption coefficient spectrum above the absorption edge, extending to higher photon energies. These oscillations arise from the interference between the outgoing photoelectron wave and waves backscattered from neighboring atoms. It provides information about the local atomic structure around the absorbing atom.
