Poling
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-009086
A process of applying a strong electric field to a material, typically a ferroelectric or piezoelectric polymer, at an elevated temperature, followed by cooling while the field is maintained. This aligns the permanent electric dipoles within the material, inducing or enhancing its macroscopic piezoelectric or pyroelectric properties. The aligned dipoles contribute to a net remnant polarization.
